Our Priorities

Practical priorities. Community voices.

Sierra's priorities come from her experience as a lifelong Saanich resident, nurse, disability advocate, and community volunteer.

01

Accessibility & inclusion

Sierra wants people with disabilities to have direct input into the projects and decisions that affect them, following the principle of “nothing about us without us.”

Her priorities include more accessible and subsidized homes, better mobility access, stronger supported-living options, and closer communication with disability-serving organizations.

  • Seek direct input from the disability community on municipal projects.
  • Advocate for renewed provincial funding for autism intervention programs previously offered at Queen Alexandra.
  • Improve coordination with Community Living Victoria, the Garth Homer Society, provincial ministries, and Community Living BC as young people transition into adult supports.
  • Support federal protections so people with disabilities cannot be silenced or have their rights signed away through non-disclosure agreements.
02

Community health

As a nurse, Sierra has seen the pressure on hospitals firsthand. She wants Saanich to advocate for greater municipal freedom to support local health initiatives.

She supports preventative-health funding, smoother clinic-opening processes, incentives for healthcare workers, and a health centre connecting a women’s clinic with family doctors and other services.

  • Advocate for greater municipal freedom to develop community health initiatives.
  • Explore lower-cost housing for newly arriving healthcare workers and lower operating costs for clinics.
  • Support a women’s health clinic connected with family doctors and other preventative-health services.
03

Affordability & environment

Sierra supports subsidized units in new developments, family-oriented housing such as townhomes, rent-to-own pathways, housing co-ops, and closer scrutiny of public spending.

She also wants mature trees replanted along corridors, stronger tree-cutting rules, and greater protection for Saanich’s natural lands and wildlife.

  • Require a share of accessible and subsidized homes in current and future developments.
  • Encourage townhomes, rent-to-own pathways, housing co-ops, and other family-oriented options.
  • Review municipal spending, pause projects that are not necessary or financially feasible, and consider reducing council and mayoral pay or deferring raises.
04

Open communication

Sierra believes everyone has a story to tell and council has a responsibility to listen, especially when community decisions have a direct impact on residents.

If elected, she would work to restore an open forum at the start of council meetings and support the return of town halls for formal community input.

  • Give residents a regular opportunity to raise emerging community concerns.
  • Share clear information about changes before decisions are made.
  • Make meaningful consultation a consistent part of community planning.
